Teacher/Board Education Resource Committee
Students with Disabilities and Diverse Abilities: How can I Access Support to Promote and Sustain Meaningful Inclusion?
The Teacher/Board Education Resource Committee (TBERC) recognizes the complexity of inclusive classrooms. It wants to ensure you are aware of the support you can access.
If you are finding the complexity of needs in your classroom challenging, please connect with your school Principal and/or Vice-Principal. They will be able to assist you in navigating the various school and district supports that are available to you.
Once you have connected with your school Principal and/or Vice-Principal, please consider some of the following pathways of support:
· School-Based Team – submit a referral to your School-Based Team to create a plan for support. The plan for support may include referrals to various members of the Learning Services Team. These may involve the Inclusion Support Team.
· Class Review Process– this is a process. The student support teacher(s), classroom teacher, P/VP, and other School-Based Team Members review the strengths and stretches. They also review class-wide structures and competencies, along with individual needs. This process can help determine various ways to optimize the learning environment of a particular class.
· KCTU Mentorship Program- access to this program can be obtained by applying in the fall through the KCTU. If accepted, you will be paired with a mentor. You are provided release days throughout the year to connect and learn together.
Please do not hesitate to contact us at kcrowe@sd20.bc.ca or lp20@bctf.ca if you have issues accessing the supports outlined above. We will attempt to assist you. Alternatively, we will recommend you submit a referral for a Teacher/Board Education Resource Committee review. Refer to the form below.
